I’ve got some updates to report! I finally got around to adding a couple of things to make the site easier to navigate. That “free submissions” category I promised is finally added to the drop-down menu, so from now on you can easily access a list the places I’m submitting to that don’t charge a reading fee. There’s also a new follow by email button, and lastly, I did a few tweaks to speed things up. That was all after a quick form rejection from Crazyhorse. All that said, if you’ve got a chapbook ready to send out, today we’re submitting to The Mary Ballard Poetry Chapbook Prize.
The Mary Ballard Poetry Chapbook Prize is hosted by Casey Shay Press, which normally publishes fiction and nonfiction primarily focused on “dealing with life’s challenges.” They also occasionally open up for submissions of young adult literature, women’s literature, etc. This annual chapbook prize doesn’t have specifications in terms of genre or theme, but they appear to favor women’s literature in the chapbooks they choose to publish, and will also accept submissions of poems geared towards children.
Include a title page with your manuscript that contains the title of the work, a one sentence explanation of its theme, and your contact information. If you’re submitting, look for announcements of quarter-finalists as early as July 31st. You’ll need to fill out the entry form I’ve linked to below, and then you’ll be re-directed to where you can upload the actual submission.
